The genealogy info below was sent to me by a Stephens researcher.

 

(some of the decendants of Moses Stephens b: 1762, who were also named Moses, were given the nickname "Mode".

 

THE LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT OF MARY ANN HILL-STEPHENS.

 

Mary Ann Stephens will, in will book R-Z Whitley county courthouse, Williamsburg

Ky., made Jan 15, 1904. Mary Ann Stephens-- I make this my last will and testament. first

I desire that all my debts be paid if any at the time of my death. i will and bequeath to

Mode Stephens one dollar, to nancy Leugan one dollar, to Sarah Durham one dollar, and to

Virginia Hines one dollar, that all being my children. I will and bequeath my house and

lot where I live and all my household furniture to my daughter Virginia Hines, and I

appoint my daughter Virginia Hines executrix to this my will. Witness my hand and signature

this Jan 15th 1904. Mary Ann Stephens ( marked with X) attest A. Gatliff and William Morgan.

County Of Whitley}

 

I, W.T. Smith clerk of the county court for the county and state aforesaid do certify

that the foregoing will was presented and produced in open court at the regular March term

1905 and offered for probate. whereupon the same was duly proven by the testimony of A.

Gatliff and William Morgan, two of the subscribing witnesse thereto, to be the last will

and testament of mary Ann Stephens now deceased, whereupon the same with the foregoing

and this certificate hath been duly recorded in my office. Given under my hand this 6th

day of March 1905. W. T. Smith Clerk

Source: Whitley County Cemeteries---Mary A. Stephens 1806-1905 Highland park Cemetery, Williamsburg, Ky.

According to tombstone Mary Ann was 94 yrs. old at death; but according to Mary Ann's statement

and recorded on the 1900 census, she says she was born September 1811 Whitley county, Ky. Someone may have made a

mistake about her birth on her grave stone.

 

VIRGINIA STEPHENS-HEINZE:

This may be Virginia "Virgie" Stephens-Hines/Heinze---but cannot prove 100 per cent--

Vergel Hines (looks like a child's stone); date: 31 Oct. 1920, Briar creek cemtery, page 139, in Whitley

county graveyard books-- volume 2, book # 1. Also, a Theodore Hines age 68, died Nov 11, 1916 in

Whitley county, Ky.-- according to Whitley county Historical Society, in the letter sent to me by

Pat Jones, presdient.

 

Land deed that is recorded in Whitley county courthouse; Williamsburg, Ky.-- Verge Hines, R.L Pope, and Grace Pope sell land to James faulkner on 9th day of Feb. 1920. This is the land that Virginia previously sold to

Grace and R.L. Pope. This land originally in deed book 31, page 238. to Thomas Roe and Emily

Roe, May 29 1896. Virginia Stephens/Heinze may have bought the land from them.
